Meet Team Rebel Scum

  Team Rebel Scum is a competitive canoe paddling team located in Central Texas, born out of rebellion in the year of 2020. It is comprised of Clint Simmons, Kenney Howitt and Larry & Sonja St. Clair on the water and Rachel Simmons & Jennifer Howitt on land. The Simmons & Howitt’s are long time family friends of over 20 years and have thoroughly enjoyed taking their bond to the river, where they were fortunate enough to meet the legendary husband & wife powerhouse that is Larry and Sonja, culminating in the most driven Rebel Scum team yet. Father of two boys, Clint has been paddling since 2016 with his wife Rachel & two sons by his side. Kenney has over 12 years of competitive marathon experience, with his biggest fans, Jennifer & their three daughters, always cheering him past the finish line. Larry and Sonja are parents of two beautiful daughters, long-time martial artists, outdoor enthusiasts, and always seeking their next endurance challenge from 300+ mile adventure races to 75-mile rucks [from Gonzales to The Alamo!] and found their passion for long-distance paddling in 2014.

Aptly named after the Rebel Alliance from Star Wars, Team Rebel Scum embodies the Rebellion’s mission of perseverance, good over evil and using ones inner Force to overcome all obstacles. Dedicated to their own personal revolution of peace, growth and health, Team Rebel Scum has fully embraced the paddle life and eagerly look forward to what the river holds for them. 

“Never tell me the odds”…Having successfully competed many times since formation, Rebel Scum proudly races in their biggest annual challenge every June, the Texas Water Safari. A legend all of its own, TWS is an intense 264-mile race that starts in San Marcos, Texas and ends in the Gulf of Mexico on the edge of San Antonio Bay in Seadrift, Texas. Infamous for its strict competition rules, TWS not only pushes the limits of the team’s physical strength and endurance but tests their mental fortitude even more so. With an approximate 50% completion rate for all TWS competitors, Clint & Rachel are proud six-time finishers, Kenney & Jennifer two-time finishers , Larry six-time finisher and Sonja seven time-finisher *including a solo female finish!!
